Yasha Young: street art is more than art

Yasha Young's name was already on the lineup of the Street Up street art festival in Pécs between May 30 and September 22. Yasha, as the founder and curator of the Urban Nation Museum for Urban Contemporary Art and the initiator of the Yasha Young Projects, is one of the defining figures of the street art movement, bringing new currents into the circulation of street art.

Art as a tool for change

According to Yasha Young's perception, street art is not only a specific form of art that unfolds on the street, but one of the most important tools for social dialogue and change. In an interview, he explained that for him the question of legality is secondary, the message and the impact on the community are what really matter. The museum he created also works in this spirit: it functions not only as an exhibition space, but also as a kind of forum where artists and interested parties alike can discuss the most important social and cultural issues.

Innovative spirit and social responsibility

Although street art has traditionally been a branch of art that developed within a subcultural framework, which reached only a few, Yasha Young pays great attention to making everyone a part of the creative process. The projects he supports often deal with social problems, such as homelessness, and try to use the power of art to build communities and draw attention to important issues.

The challenges of the future

Looking to the future, Yasha Young is constantly looking for new ways to further promote change by blurring the lines between street art and mainstream society. According to him, art can shape the future and create stimulating platforms for people to start making their voices heard and taking action. Yasha Young's work and the values he represents can serve as an example of how to raise a mystical subculture, still unknown to many, to a new level. In addition to Yasha, the street art artists Millo and Erell also have a great influence on the formation of the scene - that is why we thought it important that MaxCity be the cultural ambassador of these two artists. Let's meet in Pécs!
